Pack 120 will be participating in the "Jamboree on the Trail" May 10th at 9:00 AM. Ten years ago, Jamboree on the Trail started. Scouts are encouraged to get out and hike a trail on May 10th. The idea is that Scouts all over the world will share international fellowship by engaging in trail hiking "together" on the same date. Pack 120 participants will earn a 10th Anniversary Jamboree on the Trail Patch. We will meet at 9:00AM in the parking lot at the Blackstone River and Canal Heritage State Park, King Phillip's trail located at 350 East Hartford Avenue, Uxbridge. You can get information and a trail map at the web site below. The trail is approximately 1 mile in to "Lookout Rock" and seems like more than a mile out. The hike will last approximately 2 hours. Hope to see everyone on the Trail.
100 years ago, the forests and streetscapes of America were much
different than they appear today. For example, two tree species dominated
the countryside: Chestnuts and Elms. Chestnut trees were so plentiful
that the tree was called the "cradle to grave" tree. The abundant wood was
used to make all sorts of furniture, particularly cradles and
caskets.....
The trees were so devastated that by the 1950s few such trees survived. The
Elm Research Institute, _www.betterthanflow

The Elm Research Institute sponsored a limited-time program offering
a 14-19 foot Elm tree, a 20 inch bronze plaque, and a print of the Liberty
Elm poem to qualifying Scout Troops and towns. Funding for much of the
project comes from a private source who will work only with Scout Troops. At
the last Pack Committee meeting we discussed pursuing this
opportunity. Through the efforts of our Pack we secured a site for the
tree adjacent to Town Hall. I was able to work my "irresistible" charms on
Elm Research to consider working with a Pack. Last week, I was informed that
Pack 120 is officially accepted into the program, and a tree has been marked
for us! This is a tremendous honor. There are no more than 100 units
nation-wide who will have this opportunity! In fact, the number is much less
than 100, and the program is about to end.....we got there just in time!
This will be the only Liberty Elm in town, and perhaps even in the
region.
